Car Rental

Thrifty is the only car rental company this is not located within the airport. Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, and National all have counters within the airport.

Public/Ground Transfer

SMART buses  pick up passengers near the ground transportation offices outside of Smith Terminal. Fares must be paid with either dollar bills or quarters, exact change is mandatory. Rates for the SMART bus system are $2 for adults, $1 for Seniors, Disabled passengers, or Medicare card holders, children under 6 ride free with their parent. Transfers are 25¢ for adults and all others are free. SMART bus services are very inexpensive and perfect for those looking to save their money for other things.

There are two other options that are a little farther out. The Dearborn Amtrak station is a little more than ten miles from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. Passengers can take a taxi or the SMART bus to the Amtrak station in order to catch a train to their final destination. The other option is Wayne County's Greyhound station which is approximately eight miles away.

Airport Shuttles

Shuttle buses at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport will bring passengers to any of the parking garages or lots found at the airport. Passengers needing shuttles taking them into the city will need to hire a private firm or look at taxi, public, or limousine service. Two area companies do offer shuttle bus service. First Class Valet, Inc. has a twenty-one passenger shuttle bus that will take passengers to any town in Michigan. Starlight Entertainment & Limousine and Big Shot Limos LLC offer "party bus" service that will accommodate large crowds.

Limousine Services

Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport uses Checker Sedan  for luxury car service. The company uses Cadillac's, Lincoln Town Cars, and Chrysler 300s in their fleet. Rates are reasonable with a trip to downtown Detroit costing about $50 one way.

More luxurious stretch limo service can be provided by a number of area companies, though the price is going to be double or triple the above rates. Wilson Luxury Limousines, Riverfront Limo Service, Protran Limousine, Destinations Unlimited, Aairo Limo, VIP Limousine Service, Inc., Luxury Limo Car & Coach, and Country Club Limousine are among the most highly rated by previous customers.

Taxi Services

Taxi service is available at either the fourth floor of the McNamara Terminal Parking Garage or curbside at Smith Terminal. Metro Airport Taxi is the only company serving the airport, and the airport strives to keep rates as low as possible. Detroit fares range from about $40 to $55.

Travel between Cobo Center and the Renaissance Center (Marriot Hotel) may be accomplished in two ways:

1.  You may take a short walk between the two centers using the Detroit RiverWalk.  http://www.detroitriverfront.org/

2.  An accessible van handicap icon  will be available between Cobo Center and the Hotels from 7 AM to 7 PM Monday through Friday.

Note:  The Detroit People Mover will be down for maintenance during the symposium.
